A funding boost has been given to the Davenport Community Council after cries for help came following a fire that destroyed a disused police station in the community on Saturday, June 14.
The Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs Department has committed $180,000 to the community last week a spokesperson said.
"The Australian Government remains committed to supporting the Davenport community," a department spokesperson said.
Davenport Community spokesperson Malcolm McKenzie said that the funding would go towards reinstating the community council's authority in the community.
"The money is partly supporting a development officer for Davenport," Mr McKenzie said.
"It's (going to) help us build a better community."
The community capacity development officer will work closely with council to create opportunities for skills development and mobilise community members to make positive contributions to the community.
Davenport was looking to work in conjunction with the government to move forward in promoting a better community, Mr McKenzie said.
