Eagles stamps its authority early

25/06/2008 1:59:00 PM
Port Augusta Refrigeration Eagles 15 rubbers 49 sets defeated Sportscene Hawks 6 rubbers 29 sets.

The Eagles stamped their authority in the early singles with only Bruce Molineux's five set win over Ian "Bill" Harris coming as a bit of a surprise for the Hawks.

Harris also lost a five set match to Hawks superstar Stewart Vincent who won all his three singles against quality players.

Toby Baxter at number four continues to destroy all opponents and Angela Stubing and Pam Thomas had good nights for their respective teams.

Kristen Long had a good night culminating in a five set win over Karl Chamberlain.

Magic FM Power 17 rubbers 58 sets defeated Go Nabs 10 rubbers 39 sets.

Captain Bruno Carcuro came back to earth after last week's heroics to lose to Wes Yates, Ian Long and Mark Shirley.

The Knacks were one hit wonders and so are this mob.

Mark Shirley won all his matches, as did Wes Yates, Stephen Noll and Todd Phillips.

Robert Harris showed glimpses of form with a win over Cody Moore but a heartbreaking five set loss to Stephen Noll.

Long and Yates won an entertaining doubles encounter in four tight sets over a hapless Carcuro and "Skinny" Edwards.

Crows 16 rubbers 56 sets defeated South Bulldogs 10 rubbers 38 sets.

The late inclusion of journeyman Richard Frensham gave the Crows a big chance and he went straight out and humbled Alistair in four and a half minutes.

Youngster Craig Shirley won a beauty in five sets of "Rocket" Leith, as did John Osborne over Alby Kroes.

Alistair Miller improved markedly in the late singles but narrowly lost to Leith.

The junior competition saw two close ties and the twenty players all performed admirably.

Port Augusta Refrigeration Eagles seven rubbers 23 sets defeated South Bulldogs six rubbers 21 sets.

Craig Shirley had a top win over Rhys Bavington in straight sets and David Parsons had two solid wins.

Michael Douglas had a five set win over Lewis Irvine and Reid Honan had two close wins over Liam Hayes and Riley Dunemann.

McDonalds Power six rubbers 19 sets defeated Magic FM Crows four rubbers 14 sets.

Good to see Jason Parsons back and he pushed Kristen Long with some good rallies.

Ben Walters had a great tussle with Hayden Parsons to win in four and Clayton Brauwers had mixed results.

A five set doubles win by Hayden Parsons and Michael Gough clinched the tie for the Power. Eliza Phillips and Ben Walters were gallant in defeat.
