Hawks thrash Bloods

Teams were alive with new players - some returning to their home teams and several new faces in the line ups for the first round of the SGL season for 2008.

A slight breeze favoured the southern end at the beginning of the game with Bloods running straight into an attack scoring the first goal after a strong mark by Wilson inside the first minute.

A long shot by Ruffles was gathered by Wilson for his second major and loose checking allowed Curnow to mark and then goal.

It had been all Central's winning out of the centre giving their forwards plenty of the cherry.

Another forward, Sortie gave Ruffles an easy major.

Bloods were going strong and were up by 25 points 10 minutes in.

Collins went on and kicked the Hawks first score, with another six pointer soon after.

West were into attack again with Ray Stapleton marking and slotting another.

A good lead by Ray Stapleton onto Warren was great but he hit the post.

Dadleh was loose and he marked and scored a goal - the Hawks had hit back nine points down at the 18 minute mark.

Delaney drove the Hawks in again, Dadleh marked but off line.

From the kick out Jordan Warren marked then slotted a beauty.

One point was the margin in favour of the Bloods at the 22 minute mark.

West were getting space and Damien Stapleton marked and slotted another and by this time the Hawks were in front by five points.

Wilson's kick fell short, Curnow marked but only one flag.

Again loose around half back Carn marked but he too was off line.

At the siren, Hawks were ahead by five points.

Grantham was interfered with and took the shot but only managed a minor score.

Good play by Curnow found Grantham with a handpass easy goal Hawks into attack, good gather and a nice snap by Dadleh.

Ruffles freed long kick to the goal square, Curnow marked and goaled.

Plenty of pace and good movement gave the forward line plenty of opportunities.

Hawks goaled from a scrimmage when Lukich gathered and goaled.

Turnover by the Hawks allowed Dawson to gather and goal.

Good play Lukich to snare the ground ball and goal.

Delaney marked and loose checking allowed Lukich in but he wasted the shot.

Hayden Warren made no mistake to give the Hawks an 11 point margin.

Good vision gave Hayden Warren a chance and his long shot was home for a major.

Good evasive work gave Jordan Warren a six pointer.

West were on top across half forward and were making the Bloods pay.

Snap by Delaney for another major gave the Hawks 27 a points lead.

At the siren, it had been a good quarter by the Hawks.

The Bloods needed to man up or else suffer on the scoreboard.

Dawson opened the scoring with a six pointer for the Bloods.

Loose again this time Woodforde marked and slotted full points.

Great goal from the boundary by Matty Woodforde followed by Dadleh with another, the Bloods were still not manning up.

Donald freed and goaled a much needed one.

Woodforde again left to mark and goal.

A free and a 50m penalty to Higgins allowed him to stretch the margin to 46 points.

Bloods into attack Wilson took the handpass and goaled.

Good play by Curnow, handpass to Yeomans, goal.

Curnow also goaled.

A reply from Hayden Warren with a long shot for full points.

Woodforde with another after receiving a good handpass.

A much more even quarter but Centrals were not checking and the Hawks were making them pay on the scoreboard.

Holding the ball gave Lukich a shot and he nailed a goal.

Dadleh followed with another nail in the Bloods' coffin.

Margin was now at 54 points.

Woodforde followed with another.

Wilson missed to add to the Bloods woes.

Yeomans finally broke the ice with a snap for full points.

Strong mark by Bowey and he finished off with a major, great pass by Woodforde found Carn in front, easy goal.

Ruffles goaled after sharking the ball from the pack.

Dadleh added another it was a roller-coaster win to the Hawks and a disappointing effort by the Bloods since quarter time.

The siren sounded with the Hawks taking a 64 points victory.
