Port Augusta Homing Club members flew two races on the weekend.
Birds were hampered up on Friday evening, from Port Pire, Whyalla, Flinders and Port Augusta Clubs and the transport unit driver was Golly Harrison, and Dennis Russell and Trevor Madigan.
Adelaide Flyers, met the Unit at Two Wells and assisted in the race birds release.
For the Two Wells race, it was a distance of 245kms, with eight flyers sending 99 birds, which were released at 9am into overcast skys, with a light north east wind.
West Side Loft of the Harrison Family clocked in the winning bird, followed by Graham and Josie Grantham, with Gary and Jenny Grantham third.
Minor placings were Brett Ferber, John Pycroft, Perri-Jae Dighton, Jarrad and Talia and Tuffy and Gloria Martin.
At 10am the second race for the day, Bowmans, a distance of 192km was raced with 113 pigeons released, into the same weather conditions.
The Bowmans’ race was a catch-up event for club ,embers who missed out a race, when the transport unit broke down at Glendambo.
Eight flyers awaited the arrival of the birds, and again the west side were successful.
This time Brett Ferber had the leading bird.
Followed closely behind in second was was Harrison family, with Gary and Jenny Grantham third.
Minor placings were Graham and Josie Grantham, Perri-Jae Dighton, John Pycroft, Jarrad and Talia, and Tuffy and Gloria Martin.
Next weekend, then club will race from Coober Pedy, at a distance of 485 kms, and transport unit drivers will be John Pycroft and Wayne Gibbons, from Whyalla.
