Pony club holds successful clinics

4/07/2008 2:05:00 PM
The Port Augusta Pony Club has recently held two successful and informative clinics with instruction provided by a couple of the State's top riders.

On June 14 and 15 Olympic equestrian gold medallist, Wendy Schaeffer, instructed 16 riders in dressage (flat work) and jumping.

In addition to local members of the club, participants came from Port Pirie, Whyalla, Kimba and from as far away as Streaky Bay.

All riders benefitted greatly from Wendy's tuition, and were thrilled with the opportunity to meet a South Australian rider who has consistently had success at the very top of her chosen sport.

Wendy signed a lovely jacket which is now being raffled by the pony club.

This raffle will be drawn at the one day event to be held on July 5 and 6.

This past weekend pony club hosted a clinic by John Paterson, one of SA's top showjumping riders.

John has been coming to Port Augusta for several years now, not only to train up and coming riders, but to compete in the Port Augusta Pony Club Showjumping Championships, which will once again be held on August 10.

Every year John continues to provide excellent instruction for all level of riders.

In conjunction with John's clinic this weekend, local rider, Rebecca Struck gave basic jumping instruction to many of the younger riders - some only five years old.

This was a great chance for the younger members to begin their training, and between lessons have the chance to watch some of the older and more experienced riders jumping at higher levels.
