It was a very brisk morning, for the start of round six of midweek squash.
The temperature was a whopping 4C for the start.
That would make anything crawl back in its hole!
We were a few short again this round but we were lucky enough to again rely on our good old reserves.
Now this could get messy so concentrate.
It was Phil's Jedis to play Lyn's Wockies.
Phil and Lyn were to play Monday for this week's game but Phil's brain zigged when it should have zagged and he forgot about it and went to work instead, as you do!
So now Paul will fill in for Phil and play Lyn but next week.
Paul turned up to play Lyn from last week, so that game was out of the way
Sonja Girdler was to play Lucy Kenefick but Sonja has still got her injury so I played for her.
I didn't start off too bad, winning the first game 9/5.
Then things started to deteriorate from the second game onwards as Lucy was like a little windmill, she just got faster and won the match in four.
Denise Johnson filled in for Judy Brusnahan, who is still away and had to play Cherie Gerlach.
Denise and Cherie had a marathon against each other last week, going to a five setter.
The letters mara must have got lost and Cherie and Denise just had a thon.
Cherie just didn't have enough puff in her and got a bit lost and Denise won the match in a three.
Loretta Baker, who was herself, then played Wendy McMahon, who will be filling in for Kathrine Moyes for the rest of the pennant.
The first game had more hand outs than a teller machine, it just went forever.
Wendy plodded on and Loretta hung in there but Wendy was able to win the match in three.
Now Peter Dack was to play me but Peter had too much on his plate, so we played Thursday.
Peter and I turned up on Thursday but I don't know why I turned up at all.
We usually have a reasonably good game but Pete just had too many good shots and won the match in three.
By this time I was thinking that lawn bowls maybe a good game to take up.
Tracey McHugh filled in for Helen Newman and she played Jess Turner who filled in for Jackie Jessop.
These two girls had a brilliant game against each other last week with a five setter but they too must have only had a 'thon as well as Jess won the match in three.
It's obvious her batteries were fully charged today.
Then it was Andrea Miller’s turn to play Susan Lee, yep it was their normal game, phew, no reserves!
Between these two girls it's the battle of the serves.
They had a tough match and Andrea started off well in the first two games but then the wheels must have come loose and then they fell off completely and Susan won the match in five.
