He was named The Transcontinental's Young Sportsperson of the Year's June finalist last week.

A member of basketball, cricket and football teams in the city, the 16-year-old said he enjoyed the social aspect of sport

"It's fun … you can play with your friends," he said.

Ben said his favourite sport was basketball, in which he was voted most valuable player for the under 17 Cobras team.

He also played in the Cobras premiership A-grade side.

But while basketball might be Ben's sport of choice, his sporting skills are not limited to it.

Last year he played in the North Adelaide Football Club under 15 team, with the South Augusta under 18 team and has already played his first game for South's A-grade team this season.

Ben was also the opening bowler for South Augusta's under 17 cricket premiership team.

On top of that, he has played for the upper north cricket team.

But despite his many sporting achievements, basketball remains his love.

"My dream was to play professional basketball," he said.

Ben plans to try out this year for the State basketball team.

In year 11 at Caritas College, Ben has not decided what he wants to do when he leaves school, but he's sure to be one to watch on sporting teams around the city in years to come.

Ben received a sports bag from Sportscene and a voucher from Video Ezy, and was nominated by his father.

He is now in the running to be named The Transcontinental's Young Sportsperson of the Year.
