Shamrocks push Saint Joseph’s

In what was a game filled with controversy Shamrocks pushed Saint Joseph’s and made them work hard for the win.

I get the feeling that this game was more about Shamrocks backing themselves rather than Saint Joseph being off the boil.

At some stage Shamrocks is going to come of age as an A grade side and from what has been said about this game this could be the one.

At the end of the first quarter Saint Joes only led by one goal and needed to increase its intensity if it was going to have a win.

Second quarter saw them do exactly that by having more control through the mid court and starving Shamrocks of the ball.

This allowed Saint Joes to score more freely and take the quarter by seven and an eight-goal lead for the match.

Shamrocks rallied and made a mini comeback and showed some of the form it had in the first term and outshot Saint Joseph by two goals to reduce the margin to six going into the last quarter.

Momentum was with Shamrocks - this was going to be a cracker of a last quarter but Saint Joes showed why they are a top three side and again controlled the game to win by 11.

This was a match that Shamrocks would feel it let slip but this is all part of the process and will be much the better for it.

Railways v Quorn

I am not quite sure but Quorn may have the honour of stating that it had led the match against Railways by scoring the first two goals of the match and if this was the case then that's where it ended as Railways kicked into gear and never looked back.

This match was like all other Railways’ matches in the fact that it controlled every aspect of the game and when pushed it responded although it did admit that it felt Quorn had improved.

Unlike previous weeks where Quorn get off to a slow start this week they started well but could not maintain it for the whole match as their second half was not one for the highlight reel.

Again Quorn will take the positive from the game and work on producing more of them.

Magpies v Vikings

In the midnight match, well the 3.30pm match anyway Vikings shot out of the blocks which so far this season it has not done well.

Vikings moved the ball well and scored at will and opened up an 11-goal lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back from there winning every quarter.

This was a real team game from Vikings and possibly the first it has had this season.

Magpies did have its winners and they come in the form of Mandy Chapman, Tania Aird and Emily Coutts but to win on this day it needed a total team effort of which Vikings gave.
